Impactful Origins

Impact International NGO was established following a pivotal moment during a trip to Yemen in July 2007. Founder Mike Griffin wanted to introduce his son, Luke—who has Down Syndrome—to the rich beauty of Yemeni culture.

While exploring the Bab Al-Yemen market, a group of grieving Yemeni men approached Luke, seeing him as a reflection of their late son, Arafat, who also had Down Syndrome. They felt that Luke’s presence was a sign, bringing solace to their family.

Motivated by this experience, Mike recognized the need for advocacy and support for families facing various disadvantages, including refugees and those with disabilities. This vision led to the creation of Impact International, focused on empowering underserved communities.
